Tunisia has been subject to political unrest in recent months, with Tunisians demonstrating against the Government over issues of corruption, food prices and unemployment. These rallies, which took place in early January, subsequently led to the departure of President Zine al-Albidine Ben Ali and his regime. Further unrest and violent episodes have been reported on the edges of the capital, Tunis, and recently an overnight curfew was sanctioned in this area.

As of May 24 2011, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website have advised that all travel within 40km of the border with Libya only be undertaken if essential. There are, however, no restrictions in place for other areas of the country, including the main holiday resorts listed in this guide. As always, please be aware of the situation before travelling, and see the FCO website for the most up-to-date information possible.
